When you want to tell someone something but you can't talk to them directly you would use the internet . When you text to a number of different people it is called a network. This is when you are connecting with others.
But the people sending the texts have to agree on how they will use the connection. Also how the message will be addressed and how it will get past on. On the internet these ae called protocals.
But what if you want to send something that is too big, you would need to break it up into smaller parts. Each packet includes instructions about how it fits together and details about where it was sent and where it is going.
Sorry what? I wasn't listening!
Each computer on the internet has a unique numeric address called an IP address and these can be looked up automatically using a Domain Name server, which is like a giant address book.
When we have an address the packets get guided through the internet by routers, which pass them along like a relay race. When they arrive the instructions explain how to put all of them together and done!!!
Try and not take your electronic devices for granted Bob the squirrel I am talking to you!!!
