Storyboard Text

  • The narrator tries to convince himself that he's not crazy. He decides he must kill the old man to rid himself of the old man's evil eye.
  • I love the old man, but I despise that hideous, vulture eye!
  • Good morning, my fine sir.
  • I must do "the work!"
  • For seven nights at midnight, he watches the old man while he sleeps.
  • On the eighth night, he shines the lantern light directly on the old man's eye, and it was wide, wide open! In a mad rage he kills the old man. He dismembers the body and cleverly conceals it under the chamber's floor boards.
  • That eye won't vex me anymore!
  • Suddenly, there is a knock on the door. Three police officers explain a scream had been reported. The narrator confidently invites them in.
  • Someone reported a disturbance. Do you know anything?
  • Welcome! Please come in.
  • He calmly escorts the officers throughout the house and reassures them everything is ok. He places three chairs upon the very spot where the corpse has been concealed.  All of a sudden, he starts to turn pale and he begins to hear a ringing noise in his ears.
  • What is that noise? Do they hear it too?
  • The narrator is convinced the officers are mocking him and he confesses to the murder.
  • I confess! I did it!
