Photosynthesis and Respiration Project

Photosynthesis and Respiration Project

Storyboard Text

  • What about respiration? Respiration is a process in living organisms involving the production of energy, typically with the intake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide from the oxidation of complex organic substances.
  • Have you ever heard of photosynthesis? Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. Photosynthesis in plants generally involves the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct.
  • This is the chloroplast. The chloroplasts are a plastid that contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place.
  • This is the mitochondria. Mitochondrias are membrane-bound cell organelles that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cells biochemical reactions.
  • Max can you explain how Photosynthesis and respiration are related?
  • Photosynthesis converts carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and glucose. Cellular respiration converts oxygen and glucose into water and carbon dioxide. Water and carbon dioxide are by-products and ATP is energy that is transformed during the process.
