This is a tale about Betts, who was indicted for robbery. Betts could not afford councel, and requested one appointed for him. The judge in the case denied the request, and Betts subsequently plead not guilty, while maintaining that he had a right to counsel and arguing his own defense...

Ahh, yes though the 14th Amendment gaurantees the 6th Amendment, which directly states that prohibits states from depriving any person of life liberty, or property....
