First Winter 1620-1621.
The Pilgrims finally got a charter to go to America, but the trip was not easy. They rode on the Mayflower for two very long months at sea and many people got sea sick.

Squanto helps the pilgrims
The pilgrims got off course and landed in a different spot than what the charter stated. They decided to create a new set of rules called the Mayflower Compact since they weren't technically following the charter anymore.
The first winter spent in America was the hardest challenge the Pilgrims had to go through. Many of the pilgrims died of starvation and sickness.
After the first winter, Squanto and Samoset, Native Americans, taught the Pilgrims how to grow many foods native to America. Without him, the Pilgrims would have most-likely starved to death.
The Pilgrims wanted to thank Squanto and Samoset for helping them settle in America. They did so by having a huge feast which they invited them to, and both the Pilgrims and Native Americans worked together to get the food and set up games to play.
