- When Rocco Corresca was a small boy in Italy and he was in an orphanage with other small boys. This is important because it is telling the reader where he was when he was a small boy.
- There is an old man, his name is Tony. The old man comes and tells the eight-year-old boy that he is his grandfather. Tony is crying over the boy's shoulder while holding a piece of paper. This is important because this is when the little's boys life starts to change.
- The old man would make Rocco and some other little boys beg near the church for some money to give to him later on. The little boys would beg early in the morings for some money, sometimes the would watch from the distance. This is important because it's showing how he was treated and the thing he had to do.
- The young boy would stay in the cold cellar with no food or with no shoes. Whenever he was in the cellar it was very dark. The old many, Tony would usually abuse him and tell him that he is fat. This is important because it's telling the reader where the boy's life got difficult for him.
- The boy had decided to run away and go to America, he wanted to go since he heard they were very rich and had good jobs. He had to get on the boat to go to America. At first, he had felt very sick but then felt better after a while. This is important because this is when he finally runs away to start a new life.
- He has been living in America for three years and now he is 19 years old! He is living a much happier and wealthier life. He also had made a lot of money. This is very important because he is finally in a better place now and is happier how he is now then before.
