  • Women were given the right to vote. They also took part on political movements. As well, the 19th Amendment was removed.
  • Effects on US Government
  • No more freedom of speech!
  • 24  million men were required to register on the draft. Federal agencies then had to help regulate industry. The Railroad Administration took control over all transportation.
  • Effects on US Immigrants
  • Stop right there filthy immigrant.
  • The War Labor Board helped to create minimum wages, and an eight hour work day.  Many people were charged money under the accuse of criticizing the government.  Wealthy Americans had to give a great portion of their income in taxes to improve worker rights.
  • Effects on African-Americans
  • Let's go to the war!
  • National power was believed to improve social conditions. Freedom of Speech was oppressed by the government. The American Protective League helped the Justice Department identify radicals and critics.
  • There were many Americanization programs, but ironically the war made the believe that only certain people could enter the country stronger. Only the "desirable" people were encouraged to reproduce to createt he best humans. The IQ test was created.
  • They could not be part of democracy. They could not get jobs, especially on growing industries. There were no movements for African-American rights, they were just ignored and seen as inferior.
