The Gatling gun is a machine gun that used a lever to make it fire. This machine was made by Richard Jordan Gatling, a physician and a Confederate supporter. He made this gun to show the folly of war. The Gatling gun was used by Union and Confederate soldiers in the war and was used on the battlefield and especially in large scale battles. This impacted the civl war by givng the side that had it a big advantage. The power, fire rate, and large magazine could flattten a small troop force.
In the civil war, the Minnie ball was one of the leading causes of death, with its cone-like tip and its coiled end, it would cause about 90% of death in the war. Claude-Etienne Minie, a French war officer, made this bullet as a solution to the slow loading of a rifle. When the Minnie ball was fired, it would expand when traveling through the barrel and flatten on impact. This would be used on almost all battlefields and it was adopted by the U.S military in 1855.
In the civil war, the Springfield rifle is one of the most used weapons on the battlefield. Both Confederate and Union troops used these when going into battle. The rifle was produced first in Springfield, Massachusetts and then later on produced in other places from 1861-1865. It was a one-shot muzzleloading rifle with faster reloading and increased accuracy. This was the main weapon in the war and it was used in every battle.
