  • "This is a sorry sight."
  • II.i.28 Macbeth is sick with guilt. He can not stand to look at himself because he sees only the despicable person he has become.
  • II.i.55-57 Macbeth is saying that he will never be able to sleep after his terrible act (killing Duncan). Macbeth is terrified with his actions and feeling a guilt that is incomparable.
  • "Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor Shall sleep no more. Macbeth shall sleep no more."
  • II.i.77-79 Macbeth doesn't even recognize his own hands after killing Duncan. He asks for the ocean to clean the blood from his hands.
  • "What hands are here! Ha, they pluck out mine eyes. Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood clean from my hand?"
