  • After Sergeant Major Morris leaves, Mr. White foreshadows more negative prospects as he was told once more to throw away the paw.
  • "'He pressed me again to throw it away.'"
  • "'It moved... it twisted in my hand like a snake.'"
  • Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds.
  • Herbert warns his father that money will change him, possibly foreshadowing his father may do bad things in the future.
