  • Long Term Causes of the Revolution
  • The Estates General
  • We always win
  • We are all outvoted
  • Tennis Court Oath
  • The only way to win is to get votes with a head count
  • - Overspending of the government -Harsh taxes on the poor -No taxes on the wealthier -Food shortage -No say in government -Bad economy
  • Storming of the Bastille
  •  King Louis Called upon Jacques Necker to fix the financial problem. He did not like the idea so he fired Jacques. After that, Louis called upon the Estates General,  a legislative body that has representatives from all 3 estates. The 3rd Estate was always outvoted 2 to 1
  • Beginning of Revolution
  •  On July 14, 1789, chosen representatives from the third estate had claimed a National Assembly where all votes were counted by 'head'. On the day of the delegates found the meeting hall locked. The group migrated to a nearby indoor tennis court. After, the delegates took an oath to never separate and to meet wherever is needed
  • Famine and Taxes
  • About 800 Parisians gathered outside of the Bastille demanding for weapons and gunpowder and the commander denied that and opened fire upon the crowd. The Parisians stormed the Bastille and killed the commander along with 5 guards. It is a symbol that the French were tired of abusive Monarchy
  • A lot of events along the lines of violence and revolt were the whole revolution. Many rumors were spread and that created a fear among France.  Marquis de Lafayette  was apart of the Revolution and had a powerful faction. The Commune soon took over France and many things were abolished along with Feudalism. The Declaration of the Rights of Man was also made
  • Another reason the French revolution happened was because of taxes and less availability on grain. The government put a harsh list of regulation on food and it eventually messed up the entire food economy. Takes were also out on for grain because the French government was still tying to fix the bad overspending
