Little Johnny is crying because he is scared to get his flu vaccine. Mommy says to Johnny, "It's going to be okay. It will just be a little pinch and then its done!"
Johnny gets sent to the doctor by the lady at the front desk. He is still very scared.
"Don't be afraid Johnny. A flu shot is good for you. Even though it hurts, it stops you from getting the flu by training your body to fight the bad germs. It does this when small cells called lymphocytes produce antibodies to fight the bad germs. Think of antibodies as like your body's army men."
"Also, vaccines and antitoxins kill the bad germs and stop you from being sick. Antitoxins are made from plants and animals. They help you way more than they hurt you." "Okay I guess.... You sure it doesn't hurt bad?" Little Johnny asked. "Yes Johnny, I swear" The doctor replied.
"Little Johnny was still very scared, but he was ready." The doctor stuck the needle in his arm and it hurt. After a few seconds, it was over though. "All done." The doctor said. "That wasn't that bad was it?" "No It wasn't actually" Johnny replied.
"How was it Johnny?" Mommy asked. "It wasn't bad at all!" Johnny said. The lady at the desk gave Johnny a sticker, and they went home. He was never scared of shots ever again because he knew that they helped him more than they hurt him.
