Rome had a republic form of government with leaders that were elected. The patricians were rich men that had the power and the majority of the Romans were plebeians and had no say in the government.

The Senate was a huge group of men that the patrician elected. They arrange time to meet with other government officials and they work as judges. The Senate people had to be apart of the group for life. The senates would check on the consuls too. The consuls were elected leaders.
