  • This case will be determined as a federal criminal trial!!
  •   At this time 5 men broke into the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate complex on June 17, 1972. The police apprehended Virgilio Gonzalez, Bernard Barker, James McCord, Eugenio Martínez, and Frank Sturgis for the burglary.

  • Soon everyone was finding out about what happened at Watergate, but the White House was trying to cover it up! Was Nixon involved? Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein were the ones who broke news of the Watergate Scandal.
  • It was time to investigate on what actually happened and if President Nixon was involved or not. The court wanted President Nixon to hand over any evidence (phone calls) of the burglary.
  • President Nixon has been found guilty as evident from the tapes. Further action will be impeachment.
  • President Nixon demanded that he had the executive privilege and did not need to hand in any evidence relating to the scandal. He refused to comply to court orders.
  • The court ruled that President Nixon, under Article II, could not resist the subpoena. John Joseph Sirica and the House Judiciary Committee passes three articles of impeachment against Nixon, for obstruction of justice, misuse of power, and contempt of Congress.
  • President Nixon eventually turned in the tapes to the Senate and was found guilty. The House called for his impeachment but Nixon resigns before further action was placed against him. However, Nixon was later pardoned by President Gerald Ford.
