  • Computational Thinking and
  • One thing that I learned about computational thinking from the text is that it can be incorporated into the school day to support learning in many different subjects. For example, as is explained in the article, an activity designed to have students focus on the sequencing of a robot's behaviors might also help them with their storytelling and literacy skills (Bers).

  • Another interesting fact that I was able to take away from the article is that computational thinking is a type of analytical thinking that is similar to mathematical thinking, scientific thinking, and engineering thinking. According to Bers, it has to do with acquiring technological fluency.

  • One last thing that I was able to learn about computational thinking from this article is that understanding human behavior can actually be categorized under computational thinking when it is done by using the concepts that are fundamental to computer science.

  • One question that I have about this program is how realistic would this program be for a district to buy for all of its schools? Thinking back to my own experience in the school I visit for methods, I know that the students don't even have enough copies of their shared reading books for each student to get one during reading. I wonder if it would be realistic to have each student get their own robot/programming for this program.

  • The last question that I wonder about the article is when would be the best time to start the program? I know that in the article, they offer that even kindergarteners will have the skills and competency to be able to work with these tools. However, I am not sure if I agree that it is important for kindergarteners to get started with computer programming and robotics. So, my question is, with evidence from research, which grade level would benefit most from this type of instruction?

  • One  way in which I might use this information in my future teaching is by incorporating more exploration of technology and engineering into my curriculum. I really like how easily these activities and lessons can supplement the other core subjects, such as literacy and math competency (Bers).
