Do you want to come try an Amontillado with me in my catacombs?
We have finally made it here, are you excited to taste the wine!
Yes, I can't wait!
Yes, I am feeling fine.
Are you sure you are feeling good enough? I can easily find someone else to do it.
During the exposition, Montresor and Fortunato were at a carnival. Montresor asks Fortunato if he wants to try his very good wine called Amontillado, which is in the catacombs.
Ha! Ha! That was easy.
Rising Action: Montresor is trying to lure Fortunato into the catacombs. He does this by tricking Fortunato. For example, he keeps giving him more wine so he stays drunk.
HELP! Get me out of here!
Rising Action: Another tactic he uses to lure Fortunato is by saying that if he doesn't feel well enough to taste the wine he can get Luchresi to do it instead. He knows this will make him want to continue to the catacombs because Fortunato is a connoisseur of wine.
He is finally gone! That's what you get for insulting me.
Climax: When they arrive at the catacombs there is no wine, but Fortunato is too drunk to understand. This allows Montresor to easily chain him up to the wall.
Falling Action: At this point, Fortunato is coming to his senses and finally starts to understand what is happening. This causes him to become scared and he starts to scream and yell for help. He then starts to laugh because he thought Montresor was joking, but Montresor just continued to place the bricks and lock him in.
Resolution: Montresor finishes making the wall and locking Fortunato away forever. Montresor doesn't feel any sort of guilt and moves on with his life, leaving Fortunato to die.
