  • September 19, 1777 and October 7, 1777

  • General John Burgoyne had the British army march slowly south giving the colonists time to regroup under the Horatio Gates.
  • We will get those colonists one by one!
  • George Washington sent Benedict Arnold to tell the colonists to build a gate that has the strength of sixty - five hundred men.
  • Raise the GATE!
  • After Burgoyne attacked on September 19 and won, Henry Dearborn led Morgans men, the colonists, into the woods so that they can block off a British flanking column.
  • Burgoyne attacked again on October 7. Arnold joined the fight but Burgoyne still won.
  • Burgoyne forced the colonists to retreat. 10 days later though Burgoyne surrendered.
  • Retreat!
