The main character Okonkwo gained fame and respect by winning a wrestling match against an undefeated champion and then he became wealthy and marrying three wives and had ten children. His success contrast to the failure of this father who was a musician and afraid of war.
CLIMAX
the Umuofia decided to kill Ikemefuna and the elders warns Okonkwo not to take part in in killing because yo can't do that as he calls you a father but in the funeral ceremony of Ezeudu, Okonkwo's gun explodes accidently killings a clansman (son of Ezeudu). Though it was an incident but he had been exiled for seven years and he settled with his family to his motherland. It was a little village named Mbanta,
FALLING ACTION
During his exile, the white man appeared in their clan and they occupied their village, built churches there and made new systems of religion. Many of the villagers adopted new customs brought by the whites and Nwoye (Okonkwo's eldest son) was one of them.
RESOLUTION
When Okonkwo returns to Umuofia, he finds that much has changed and the missionaries are now well established. He tried to re-established his culture and in response the village leaders respond them by destroying their church.
The district commissioner jail six leaders including Okonkwo and they were humiliated and torture in jail. And after releasing from jail, Okonkwo decided to take revenge and he killed the court messenger to stop the clan meeting.
Okonkwo was unable to adjust himself under this new custom of whites and he takes his life by hanging himself.
