Role of healthy diet to prevent anemia

  • A 16 yr old school going girl named ruhi, was very passionate towards sports and yearning to be a part of school's core sports team.Being such an enthusiasts, she still had a habit of eating junk food regularly.
  • For instance,She deliberately leave her lunch box at home so that she can have outside food items as her major meals.
  • One day during practice she fainted and became a joke for her schoolmates as they made fun of her. Firstly she ignored all of them. But this continued as she used to get tired earlier, shortness of breath and dizziness obstructed her performance.
  • Even during the matches she was unable to play for longer durations and hence got replaced with other player. After observing this, her coach advised to buckle up or else she will lose her position in the team. Further he told him to get a health checkup to know what's going wrong with him.When she got back to home she narrated whole incident to her mother and hence her mother took appointment for her checkup.
  • They went to the doctor. The doctor analyzed her and did a blood test to pinpoint the cause.And the cause was Anaemia.Then she explained her that “At first, anemia can be so mild that you don't notice it. But symptoms worsen as anemia worsens.”And advised her to start eating Iron-rich foods include beef and other meats, beans, lentils, iron-fortified cereals, dark green leafy vegetables and dried fruit & Vitamin C. Foods rich in vitamin C include citrus fruits and juices, peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, melons and strawberries. These help increase iron absorption.
  • After all the ups and downs she understood the importance of healthy diet and overcame with anemia and won a tournament too. At last shegave a befitted reply to the bullies and became healthier hence happier.
