  • Massachusetts' Debt
  • i am here to collect taxes to pay off our debt
  • Taxes? i got no money from the war! i'll be poor if i pay taxes! 
  • August 29th in North Hampton
  • We must close this courthouse immediately!!!
  • Men and outside with guns and clubs!
  • The editor of Massachusetts' Centinel's Observation
  • The late insurrections in the commonwealth... must be considered as the cause of bringing [ The federal goverment ] into existence,at a much earlier period that would overwise have been.
  • The Massachusetts Legisialature was un debt, and started taxing the people in order to pay it off. Since the people that served in the army were given no money in return, they could not pay the taxes, and the legisilature started to take farmers land.
  • September 25-28th
  • Take up as much chairs and  space as possible, men!
  • On august 29th of angered farmers closed the hampshrires county court of common pleas. They gathered weapons and threatened the courts of common pleas.They gathered weapon weapons and threatened the courts people so they would close As a result, no one could go to jail.

  • The editor observed that the violence of shays rebellion brought the federal governebt unto existence, i do agree with this because it made it more obvious to people that the articles were weak (power wise) and didnt work very well at all.

  • Shays and his 600 men devised a plan to occupy the springfield courthouse in order to keep the supreme judicial court from sitting there. They wore their continental army uniform for this occsasion.
  • Shays' devised a new plan to attack the new federal arsenal in springfield. They needed a new plan because they realized they was facing an "organized militia". They plan failed because the defense opened fire on shays and his men.
  •     As payment for the continental soldiers bravery and service, they were given given a certificate to show that they had served in the war. This angered many, and most people were becoming poor. most sold the certificate for money.
