Storyboard Text

  • Hey Adam, have you thought of what you're going to do for the project?
  • Not at all, what about you?
  • I think I'm going to focus on human trafficking. I believe more people need to be aware and to be aware, they should be able to see the signs.
  • What is human trafficking?
  • I am glad you asked, human trafficking is when people, mainly children and teens, are forced into slavery.
  • No way! Tell me more.
  • Ok, human trafficking is all over the world. Children and teens get involved everyday. It has dramatically increased over the years. In 2008,  there were 448 convictions in the Western Hemisphere. In 2016 there were more than 1,000 ("Human Trafficking Statistics, by Region" ABC-CLIO).
  • Think about the dramatic change in just 12 years. This is only in the Western Hemisphere, so don't forget about all the rest of the people in the world that are dealing with this.
  • Well, if it's a global issue, then what are other people in the world doing to help raise awareness? What can we do and how can we involve a lot of people?
  • The United Nations put forth the "Convention on Transnational Organized Crime" this is where they put safety protocols and how to get help. There are also many organizations, such as "Free the Girls," "Free the Slaves," and more. "Maiti Nepal" is an organization in India where I have been able to get involved.
  • The more organizations, the more ways people can get involved. This could include raising money to provide for those who have gotten there freedom, donating basic necessities and clothes. You could make a club at school, get involved with law enforcers, or pursue a fellowship
