Storyboard Text

  • Kalina is a 13 year old Aboriginal girl who wants to begin her vision quest. Her and her family decide that she is mature and ready to embark on this spiritual journey to be accepted as an adult of the community. In her native culture a vision quest is an intense, solitary spiritual experience for those seeking direction in life.
  • Now that I am 13, I am finally feeling mature and ready to begin my journey through my vision  quest.
  • Wow! I am so happy your time has come Kalina.
  • To begin the journey Kalina must enter a process of purifying. To do so, she meets with a wise Shaman who performs the ceremony. This ritual purifies the body, mind, spirit, and heart and restores right relationships with one's self, others, and the Creator.
  • May you walk this journey with peace.
  • The Shaman has chosen Kalina's scared place to be in the centre of a forest. She does not know why this place was chosen for her but she hopes that with prayer and reflecting, the Spirits will help guide her.
  • After days and nights of fasting and deep prayer. Kalina's vision came to her in the form of a deer. This vision should help her find her purpose in life, her role in the community and explain how she can best serve her people. Now that Kalina has seen her vision she must return to to her community and to her family to share her experience.
  • Kalina returned to the community and told her vision to the Shaman. She was very excited to know what this animal would mean for her. The Shaman interprets her vision. He said the deer was known to be an animal of power and a messenger. It represented, spiritual healing, gentleness and pointed to the female aspects within her.
  • Shaman, I saw a deer in the forest, What does this mean?
  • Kalina, this means you are going to live a life carrying motherly features and will be helping everybody in your community.
  • Kalina concludes her journey by sharing the exciting news with all her family. She feels different spiritually  and in the tribe. They view her as more of an adult now. Kalina is very grateful for the amazing journey she has experienced and can't wait to begin her adult life.
