Frederick Douglass was a slave that lived in the 1800s. He was among the hundreds of thousands of slaves that lived in this time. Many black people in the 1800s were treated awfully by white's. Frederick Douglass was among these people who were often mistreated. Many white men who owned farms owned slaves as well to work for them. This power over another human corrupted people and changed their lives. Many slaveholders had a breaker that would try to make the slave feel like there was no hope of them being free, slavery truly was dreadful.
Young Frederick was on his way to a new place for a while. The people he was going to live with were the Aulds, a married couple with one small child. The Aulds had never owned a slave before and had not known what having complete power over another slave would feel like. The Aulds lived in baltimore where slavery was not very common. In baltimore African Americans were treated almost the same as white's were treated.
When Arederick arrived he was met with a warm mrs.Auld who implied “Hello! You must be Frederick.” . She warmly invited him inside, he nervously walked down the hallway to meet mr.Auld and Thomas as he noticed the condition of their house. Obviously the Aulds were quite wealthy and Frederick was in aw, he never had never seen such a nice house. After Frederick met mr.Auld and Thomas he thought life there would be much better however he was wrong.
