Storyboard Text

  • Soon after the suicide of the Sphinx, Queen Jocasta married Oedipeus without knowing he was her son. They later had two sons.
  • Soon a horrible plague swept the city that killed many and left the rest of Thebes citizens in disarray.
  • They send to the oracle a message asking what they can do to stop this plague and the oracle responds with:
  • What can we do to stop this terrible plague!
  • "Let no one of this land give shelter to him (The killer of king Lauis), bar him from your homes, one defiled companioned by pollution"
  • The king soon sent for the prophet Tiresias to determine who was the murderer and when he asked Tiresias refused to answer. The king then accused Tiresias of murdering Lauis and Tiresias responded with:
  • "You are yourself the murderer you seek!"
  • The king soon realizes that a man he killed long ago was his father and the woman he now knew as his wife was his biological mother. After the queen realized this, she ran off and killed herself.

  • In the myth of Oedipeus, the theme of prophesies are inevitable is littered throughout the text. An example of this is how Jocasta married her son, who killed his father, just as was prophesiesed, even though they gave their all to avoid it.
