The White's family get a visit from an old friend of Mr. White's, Seargent-Major Morris. He has been in India, and that is where he got the Monkey's paw. The Monkey's paw grants 3 men 3 wishes each and Mr. White was interested.
Mr. White wanted to take his chances with the paw and make his first wish on 200 pounds ( money). His son goes to work excited about the money.
A mysterious man is outside the White household pacing back and forth. The White's see that he is dressed fairly well so they invite him in. He told them that Herbert, their son, died at work. The compensation was 200 pounds. Ms. White was devastated.
Ms. White woke up in the middle of the night and told Mr. White an idea she had. She wanted to wish her son back to life. Mr. White hesitated because he knew wishes came with consequences. She forced him to make this second wish. Minutes later they heard knocking on the door.
The knocking gets louder. Ms. White tries to run to the door to let her deceased son in, but Mr. White holds her back because he is scared that Herbert isn't the same anymore. She get's loose from her husband to ge to the door, but she can't reach the bolt.
Mr. White grabs the paw to wish that his son and the knocking would go away. He makes his last wish and a the same moment Ms. White opened the door but no one was there. She was devistated.
