Summer Jordan missed her sophomore year of high school to care for her grandparents.
I am happy for the thing that I have had been thought make me a stronger and better person. Even though it may have been really, really, really bad stuff… its made me a better person
Summer is a senior at Black Rock High, an alternative public school for at-risk student.
Summer you are a very talented artist, you are talented beyond Black Rock.
Students drop out for many reasons… but most cite the number one reason is not having a personal relationship with a caring adult
We need to show our students that there is more to life than just "making it"
This is pathos because Summer is talking about all of the bad experiences that she has been through. This connects to our claim because she is explaining how persevering through her issues made her better.
This is ethos because her teacher is trying to convince her to go to the art institute rather than stay and help out her grandma. This connects to our claim because she has to persevere past her grandma's hardships in Black Rock and try to be successful in life.
This is logos because the teachers are trying to come up with a plan to change their student's attitudes on life. This connects to our thesis because they want to convince their students to persevere to become successful rather than just scraping by.
