Identity Crisis in "Catcher in the Rye"
If you want to know me you have to actually listen to me because i don't like repeating myself... I tend to want things in life only to realize I don't need such things except for company.
Scene 1: The argument between Holden and Stradlater over Jane - when Stradlater gets back from his date with Jane.
What'd you do... Give her the time in Ed Banky's goddam car?
What a thing to say. Want me to wash your mouth with soap?
Scene 2: Sunny is getting upset with Holden for "wasting her time" -When Holden begins to second guess the reason to have sunny in his room.
Hey c'mon lay over here, hey?
I'm sorry I just had surgery on my back... would you mind if we just talked?
Identity Crisis can be a worrying topic especially when others tend to realize. Throughout the story the person whoever always ends up between Holden and his happiness is always surprisingly himself. As thins problem continues Holden begins to believe that if he lives alone his problems will go away throughout the story.
In this scene Stradlater comes back from his date with Jane and Holden begins to question Stradlater what he did to Jane on the date. While asking he ends up getting upset from all the things he imagines and assumes of what the things Stradlater could've done to Jane. With the assumptions Holden had Stradlater and Holden end up fighting.
In this scene , Holden finds himself in the same room with Sunny, an "escort" who he asked to be in the room with him but realizes he doesn't to spend time with her in the negative way but just wants someone to talk to.
