Arachane was a student that Athena the goddess taught to weave. She had natural talent.
Arachane bragged about how she was better at weaving then the goddess of weaving herself which was Athena. So Athena changed into a old woman and told her that she shouldn't compare herself to the gods.
Arachane didn't listen though and so Athena threw off her disguise and so they competed.
Both tapestry's were beautiful. Athena's was about the Olympians in their glory. While Arachane's was making fun of Zeus and his wives.
Athena was so angry at Arachane, she turned her into a spider.
So now, Arachane and her descendants are forever weaving.
