Storyboard Text

  • The New Colossus: It probably means the new stronghold or leader.   Later on, I discovered it was talking about the Statue of Liberty
  • Not like the strong leader of greek fame, with winning parts moving from place to place; Here at our stained gates should stand A might woman with a light, whose flame is imprisoned power, and her name Mother of Castaways
  • From her shiny-hand Glows around the world welcome; her soft eyes know The harbor that cities cover. "Keep your land, your tired" cries she with silent lips "Give me the tired and broke, your groups' yearning to leave, The wretching land of your shore. Send the refugees to me I lift my lamp next to Freedom
  • Paraphrase
  • Connotation
  • Exiles, Light, Bright, Flame, Torch, Might, Mother, Woman
  • Attitude/Tone
  • The tone is happy but at the same time, it is kind of sad. I say this because the refugees are being pushed out of their homes.
  • Shift
  • The shift happens when the poem stops talking about her and goes to her actually talking
  • Theme
  • The Statue of Liberty stands for freedom. The poem means happiness comes when you find freedom
