Storyboard Text

  • This is Martin Luther. He was very unhappy about the church because some of the priests were unholy, people didn't understand the Bible, and some church leaders were too wealthy.  Martin made something called the 95 thesis which claimesd the 95 things wrong with the church. Printing press made it viral and people were mad.
  • The church is unholy and I need to fix it!!
  • 95 Thesis
  • Like Martin Luther, many other people left the Catholic Church and began their own denominations.  The people weren't happy with the Catholic church .  This act was called the Protestant reformation
  • The churches responce to Luther's refromation was creating a counter reformation called the Council of Trent. The point was to cleary define the teachings of the church, address abuse and curruption, and regulate the  training of priests.
  • Council of Trent, 1545
  • Martin  Luther believed in sola scriptura (scripture alone), and sola fide (faith alone). The church said there was a problem with Sola Fide because it believes that there are only  2 sacraments and there are 7, and we know that the authority comes from scripture and tradition. The church says there is a problem with sola scriptura because we need more than just the Bible alone, we need to believe in our faith and live in it. Not just read it in the Bible
  • Pros and Cons of the Protestant Refromation.
  • Pros: The church was able to fix many of the abuse/ corruption of the church. The church more clearly defined its teaching and became more unified. Cons: Many people left the Catholic church and continued to be separate. The church that Jesus created as one became separate.
  • THAT A RIP IN THE CHAT
  • Differences between Catholicism and Protestants.
  • Catholicism: See the pope as the #1 leader We believe that Jesus is fully present in the Eucharist. We ask Mary and other saints to pray for us. Protestants:  Don't see the pope as their #1 leader. Don't believe Jesus is fully body, blood, soul, and divinity Don't ask Mary or other saints for prayers.
