Orpheus was a beautiful musician. Everyone, including plants and animals, came close to here his lovely songs. Everyone loved him but, his heart was set on one girl, Eurydice the nymph. On the day that they were set to wed, Eurydice was bit by a snake and died! This left Orpheus in deep despair.
Orpheus then went to the underworld, where Eurydice's soul had gone. He was sad singing a sad song, and the rest of the underworld mourned with him. The whole world mourned with him.
Then Hades announced, " If you leave and don't look back I will let her come with you, but if you look back she comes back with me.
Orpheus marched on not once looking back to see if Eurydice was really there. The farther he got, the more uncertain he became. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore. He turned around, and was delighted to see Eurydice right behind him! He threw his arms around her, but in a moment she was a black mist floating back to the underworld.
Once again Orpheus was left in deep despair. He sang the saddest songs, and had the saddest mood. He eventually became so sad that he couldn't sing anymore. Finally when he could sing again it was beautiful, but when everyone came to listen he pushed them away. This frustrated many people and they killed him.
Orpheus was more than happy about this. He could go see bride! He eagerly joined Eurydice and walked with her down the daffodil meadow.
