Storyboard Text

  • My mom and dad voted for the president yesterday.
  • You know, when your parents vote, they aren't actually voting for the president.
  • Huh?
  • In the Electoral College system, there are 538 electors in total. Your state's electors depend on its Congress members.
  • So, when your parents vote for their candidates, they're actually voting for electors.
  • Those electors vote for the president they think the majority of your state will approve of. 270 votes are needed for a president to win.
  • What happens if no president wins a majority vote?
  • Then, the House of Representatives votes for the three most popular candidates.
