  • Did I hear something at the door?
  • It was just a normal day when John Zenger was printing the New York Weekly Journal.
  • Lewis Morris Persuades
  • I really hope that he is here. We need to get this newspaper printed fast!
  • Lewis Morris had come to Zenger to ask him a favor.
  • Agreement
  • Will you help me spread the truth about Governor Cosby through your newspaper?
  • I would love to. People need to know the truth about him.
  • In this scene, it shows that John Zenger was working on a normal day when he was visited by his soon to be partner in printing these newspapers.
  • New York Weekly Journal
  • I think it turned out great!
  • This scene shows that Lewis Morris came to Zenger because he wanted to show everyone that Cosby wasn't who everyone thought he was.

  • This scene is showing that Zenger agreed to work with Morris to write about how the governor was corrupt.
  • Jury's Decision
  • This scene is showing that they printed the newspaper to criticize the governor in an edition of the New York Weekly Journal.

  • Andrew Hamilton became Zenger's defense lawyer after Zenger was charged and arrested for seditious libel. He argued that Zenger should not be charged with seditious libel because what he wrote was true. He stated that if statements are true, people should be able to say them without it being illegal. 
  • My client should not be charged with seditious libel because what he said about Governor Cosby is true!
  • This scene shows that the jury found Zenger not guilty, and they believed Hamilton when he said that everything that was printed was true.
  • Your Honor, the jury has come to a decision. We find John Peter Zenger, "not guilty".
