Andrew Hamilton became Zenger's defense lawyer after Zenger was charged and arrested for seditious libel. He argued that Zenger should not be charged with seditious libel because what he wrote was true. He stated that if statements are true, people should be able to say them without it being illegal.
My client should not be charged with seditious libel because what he said about Governor Cosby is true!
