Storyboard Text

  • Regional Differences About Slavery and the Compromise of 1850
  • Southerner: I want slavery!
  • Northerner: I want no slaves!
  • Fugitive Slave Act
  • I don't want to try to escape because the new fugitive slave act will make it harder.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin
  • The north does not want slavery and the south does want slavery. There was a question is California would enter as a free or slave state and California entered the Union as a free slave state and the rest of Mexico Cession was divided.
  • Trouble In Kansas
  • Should there be slavery in Kansas?
  • This act was created to prevent people from helping runaway slaves and it allowed officials to arrest slaves in free areas. This affected the south because it made it harder for slaves to escape and stay safe.
  • Dred Scott Decision and John  Brown's Raid on Harper's Ferry
  • I am John Brown and I am an abolinist and I am going to initiate an armed slave revolt by taking over a US arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. My party of 22 was later defeated by the US Marines.
  • Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote it and it was written to speak out powerfully against slavery and inform people about the evils of slavery. One passage from the book is, "foul imagination which could invent such scenes."
  • Lincoln is Elected President
  • Northerners believed that Abraham Lincoln's ideas about slavery, and especially the spread of slavery, were very good ideas and they supported him. Southerners were not happy about the election of him and feared he would end slavery when they wanted to keep it.
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act was a plan that would drive the remainder of the Louisiana Purchase into two territories -Kansas and Nebraska-and allow the people in each territory to decide on the question of slavery. Bleeding Kansas was a series of violent civil confrontations in the US between 1854 and 1861 which emerged from a political and ideological debate over the legality of slavery in Kansas.
  • The Dred Scott Decision was about a man named Dred Scott and he was enslaved and it was a case on him. The Supreme Court's Ruling was about how John Brown couldn't sue because he was not a citizen and their reasoning was that African Americans had no rights which a white man was bound to respect. This matters because it shows that they didn't care for the rights of African Americans and it was a cause of the war.
  • 5 facts about Lincoln: 1. His nickname was Honest Abe. 2. He set up a national banking system while he was president. 3. He was shot and killed during his presidency. 4. He was the 16th president. 5. He helped abolish slavery.
