All that they knew, even though it was wrong, was that the cave was safe. Unfortunatley, it was inhabited by Polyphemus - the worst cyclops. After several men died they were able to escape.
While sailing away from the cyclops cave, they stumble upon Aeolis', the wind god's, castle. He gives them bags of wind, but the crew of the ship use them without permission. They end up back at the castle, but Aeolis refuses to help them again.
The Land of the Dead
Ulysses lands on an island with giant cannibals; a few men die.
eThey land on an island with a sorceress who turns half the crew to pigs. When Ulysses goes to see what happened to them, Hermes gives him a magical flower that can resist Circe's spell. Circe tempted Ulysses like water to a parched man. Unfortunatley for her, Ulysses was able to resist her spell to change him to a fox, and convinced her to change her pigs to humans.
Ulysses counseled with his dead friends with regard for only his crew's life, like a king bargaining for his kingdom.
Ulysses saw the rocks moving and blocking his path, and he knew they were trying to get him to go somewhere.
