Ionian revolt: The small geek city state Ionia was rebelling against Persia so Athens sent soldiers to help them. But they still ended up losing and the Persian ruler vowed to get revenge on Athens for there involvement.
Battle at marathon: the Persians attacked in revenge because Athens helped Ionia the Greek phalanx formation was far superior to the fighting ability of the Persians who weren't well trained so the Athenians easily defeated the Persians.
Pheidippides made a 26 mile run from marathon to Athens to give the news that they had won the battle it is where the modern day marathon comes from.
Thermopylae: the Greek soldiers met the Persians in the narrow mountain pas because it was the only way through and they could only fight off an attack from the front.
Thermopylae: the Greeks had 7,000 soldiers including 300 Spartans they held them off for 3 days until a traitor told the Persians about a secret way around the 300 Spartans stayed and all of them died so that the rest of the Greeks could retreat to defend Athens their sacrifice had a big impact on the rest of Greece.
Salamis:The Persians came into the Chanel to attack the Greeks and then the Greeks blocked the end of the Chanel and the Persian ships couldn't turn around because of there size the Greeks rammed and sunk them with there smaller but strong trireme ships
