To disguise Odysseus from being recognized, Athena changes him to a beggar so he can enter his kingdom without causing a ruckus.
Odysseus Gathers His Allies
The first person Odysseus reveals himself to is Telemachus, and what ensues is a tearful reunion between the two.
Odysseus Kills The Suitors
Argus was Odysseus' best dog, but has grown old by the time he returns. Odysseus arrives just in time to see him take his last breath, but he can't show that Argus is his own, so he just watches.
Odysseus Reunites With His Wife
Odysseus goes to the swineherd and the cowherd to make them his allies in the event he is about to encourage. When he goes to kill the suitors, he will need the help of these men.
Odysseus proves himself to the suitors that he is Odysseus, and proceeds to kill them one by one. They try to fight back, but they are trapped, and with Athena's help, Odysseus murders them all alongside his son.
After all the suitors are killed, Athena steps in once again to change Odysseus back to his regular self after he has proven himself. Odysseus is finally able to reunite with his wife, they bring each other up to speed on what has happened, and live the rest of their lives happily.
