I just need water and for you to breathe out carbon dioxide. I already have sunlight from the sun.
Hey, you in the blue! Can you help me?
I have the water, but what do you need it for?
What happens during photosynthesis?
That sounds complicated. Can you explain it?
It is for this process call Photosynthesis.
I make a type of sugar called glucose.
Photosynthesis is a process where a green plant makes glucose. It consists of two steps.Light Dependent & Light Independent Reactions.Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplast in a plant cell.
In the chloroplast is something called chlorophyll. The chlorophyll absorbs the sunlight for the photosynthesis process. It also give the plant the green looking pigment.
In the thylakoid, light energy is absorbed. This brings excitement to the electrons and brakes up H20. Oxygen is then released, but the hydrogen stays inside.
Light Dependent Reaction
The hydrogen is is used to make ATP. ATP is an important type of energy used in photosynthesis. The electrons that were excited by light are carried by NADPH. NADPH is used to help fuel the reactants in the second stage of photosynthesis.
In the stroma, 6 carbon molecules combines with 6 other carbon molecules. When combined the form 12 3-PGA. The ATP turns into ADP and the NADPH turns into NADP+.
Light Independent Reaction
They form G3P molecules. When two G3P molecules leave the cycle, they make sugar. The left over G3P is converted into carbon to be reused for another cycle by an enzyme called Rubisco.
Wow! That is very interesting. It also sounds hard.
Can you explain it again so I can record it and show my friends?
Haha! Yeah, sure why not.
Yeah, it is, but it does benefit both of us. I make myself food and you get oxygen.
