Storyboard Text

  • George Grenville, a British Prime Minister, was in charge of increasing revenue for Great Britain after the French and Indian War.
  • Sugar Act of 1764
  • STOP SMUGGLING OUR SUGAR, YOU COLONISTS!
  • The sugar was being taxed, the colonists would not pay the king, and the colonists were smuggling the sugar. The first act Parliament passed after the French and Indian War was the Sugar Act of 1764.
  • (laughing)
  • SUGAR
  • Hmmm... I wonder if I lowered the tax, maybe those colonists will stop smuggling the sugar!
  • Grenville hoped that if he lowered the tax that was already on sugar, the colonists would probably stop smuggling the sugar.
