  • "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst takes place in North Carolina in the 1900s. The main characters are the narrator and his brother Doodle
  • Climax
  • The main conflict in the story is Doodle's disability. His brother tries to teach him to walk and be normal.
  • Falling Action
  • The rising action is when Doodle starts training. He is then able to walk and run with his brother.
  • Resolution
  • The climax of the story in the appearance and death of the Scarlet Ibis. Doodle then buries the bird and his family ignores it.
  • The falling action is during the second storm. Doodle's brother leaves him and moves on without him leaving Doodle alone and helpless
  • The resolution is when Doodle's brother finds him dead. He turns around to get Doodle and finds him dead by a bush.
