  • Federalism is the power divided between National government and State government. The United States fought the Revolutionary War to gain independence from Great Britain during 1775-1783. It is found in Article 1, Section 8 of the constitution. For Example, the federal government's powers to levy taxes, mint money, declare war, regulating trades between states, establish post offices, and punish piracy at sea.
  • Examples of National government Federalism is the power to coin money, regulate commerce, declare war, raise and maintain armed forces and to establish a Post Office. Federalism limits the power of National government with Check and Balances by checking the powers of each branch to make sure that the power is balanced between them.
  • IMPEACH
  • Examples of State government Federalism is the power to establish local governments, create state Constitutions, run their own schools, conduct elections, set laws for legal drinking and smoking ages and support the public health of the citizens. The Tenth Amendment limits the state government power because it declares that states have all powers not granted to the federal government by the Constitution.

  • Checks and Balances make sure that our laws are fair and that they are guided by the rules in our constitution. The Checks and Balances is found in Article 1 of the Constitution and havethree branches of government each have certain controls over the other two branches to prevent any one person or group from gaining complete control over the government. Checks and Balances help maintain fairness and peace in America.
  • Checks and Balances work with the executive branch by checking on the president to see if he/she does something against the law and impeaching the president by voting to have the president tried for a crime they think he/she has commited. As of 2020, President Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump have been impeached by the House of Representatives and have been accused of crimes.
  • The best example of checks and balances is that the president can veto any bill passed by Congress, but a two-thirds vote in congress can override the veto.
