  • Debates/Compromise over the Great Compromise.  Legislatures would be bicameral, two senators per state, house of representatives based on population of state. 
  • The southern states refused to approve the constitution unless slavery continued. The North was basically having to comply to get the constitution. Congress couldn't ban slavery till 1808.
  • 3/5ths clause
  • If there was a slave to flee their old owners property they were to be brought back. The Southern slave states were for this plan while the Northern were not. 
  • Fugitive Slave Act
  • The U.S. Congress said no U.S. ports or shipyard shall be used for slave importing. A fine would be charged to boats who did, 
  •  Regulation of the International slave trade
  • The North states wanted this to pass because they thought it was inhumane to be importing slaves. The Southern states kept importing some slaves in the deep south.
