  • Why were longhorn cattle important to the Texas cattle industry? Longhorn  cattle had long feet to help them travel a long distance and their horns protect them from predators.People used longhorn cattle for decoration and furniture.Longhorns cost more money in late 1850’s until the Civil War happened.People's demand for beef grew quickly,the army needed food,but it was hard for people to move their cattle to the front.
  • What was the significance of the strike at Spindle top? Year?Location?Describe the event? The spindle top made a big start towards the Texas oil boom in 1901 in Beaumont. Anthony F. Lucas drilled 575 feet and found traces of oil but he couldn't continue because his equipment wasn't good enough so he went to invest new equipment and continue drilling he finally struck oil on January 10,1901.
  • How was the arrival of rail lines in Texas important to farmers? Cotton was such a large profit that farmers started to only grow crops. 1880 Texas farmers grew about 57 million dollars of cotton.  Cottonseed oil was mostly for cooking,cosmetics,and roofing material. West Texas had a dramatic shift increasing from 574,000 to 8 million dollars during the late 1800s.
