Storyboard Text

  • Hey, WHAT is the difference between direct and representative democracy?
  • ...
  • In a direct democracy, the citizens vote for themselves. In a representative democracy, the people vote on a person to represent them in Congress or Senate.
  • But WHEN were they made and WHERE?
  • Direct democracy began in Athens in the 5th century, and representative democracy began in America in 1776.
  • But WHO is involved?
  • In direct democracy, the citizens are involved. In a representative democracy, there are representatives who vote and represent the citizens, and in Greece, that would mean the men.

  • But WHY did democracy happen? And also, which one will be better in the future?
  • I don't know why you're asking, but direct democracy happened because the Athenians wanted an organized way to vote. Representative democracies are best to use today because of America’s population. It is a lot easier to have 535 members of congress vote and represent everyone, then to have 326,766,748 people all vote with a lot of confusion.
