Storyboard Text

  • In   1347, infected fleas on rats traveled from China to Europe, carrying  a disease called the bubonic plague, or the Black  Death.
  • About 2/3 of the population of  Medival Europe  died, causing a severe loss of people  to work the fields and become soldiers.
  • Because of the new lack of workers, peasants were able to demand more  rights and pay, leading to the decline of feudalism.
  • On June 15, 1215,  in a place called Runnymede, a group of nobles and clergy forced King  John to stamp a document called the Magna Carta.
  • This document gave more rights to the nobles and clergy, and limited the power of the king.
  • It also contained many laws that improved the rights of the common people, helping to stop feudalism. Some of  these laws affected our constitution as well.
