- A man named Arius divided the church by bringing up the heresy of saying that Jesus wasn't really Gods son he was just a creation that was a prophet. Emperor Constantine in return called a meeting of all the bishops which was the first ecumenical council. They decided that Jesus is truly god and so they published a creed saying the Christian faith in the way that thoroughly condemned Arianism.
