Do you mean that my mom and Mr.Shears had an affair?
Oh, Christopher, I am so, so sorry I never realized.Oh Dear, Dear, Dear
You... You read the letters... I'm so sorry Christopher I didn't... mean to. Come, let's get you cleaned up.
It was close to midnight when Christopher John Francis Boone walked past Mrs.Shears House when he finds a garden fork sticking out of a dog. Then he realizes that this dog is Wellington, and he starts to stroke it when he gets confronted by the police. "I did not like him touching me like this. So I hit him."(Haddon, 8). Due to this, he is soon arrested for assault. But he is determined to figure out who killed Wellington.
After much questioning of his neighbors, he comes across Mrs.Alexander who soon realizes that she's said too much and reveals the truth about his mother. " "Your mother before she died, was very good friends with Mr.Shears.'" Mrs.Alexander said. "I know," I said. And she said," No, Christopher. I'm not sure you do. I mean that they were very good friends. Very, very good friends."(Haddon, 60). This left Christopher very confused.
After a few arguments and fights between Christopher and Dad, Dad makes it seem like he threw away the book. Christopher eventually tries to find his book that he has been writing. but instead, he finds 43 letters addressed to him. With that, he starts secretly reading these letters and realizes that it is his mom writing. Then, he realizes that it is not true what Dad told him, mom is actually alive and living with Mr.Shears in London. " Mother had not died. Mother had been alive all this time. And Father had lied about this."(Haddon, 112)
When Christopher realizes that his dad killed Wellington, he soon gets frightened of him. He then devises a plan to run away so he hides from his dad for a day. His dad soon gets paranoid and leaves the house to go find Christopher. Christopher then leaves for the train station and stealing his dad's Cashpoint Card."And then I went up to the door and I pressed the big button and the doors slid open and I stepped through the doors. I was on the train to London."(Haddon, 155).
"And then I woke up because there were people shouting in the flat and it was 2:31 am. And one of the people was Father and I was frightened. But there wasn't a lock on the door of the spare room."(Haddon, 197). After going through multiple trains and enduring through multiple traumatic experiences, he reaches the residence of his mother. SHe is shocked to see him and allows him to stay. But when Father comes, he starts a huge argument between him and Mother, and Christopher is left frightened.
"And I got the results of my maths A level and I got an A grade, which is the best result..."(Haddon, 220). After constantly pestering his mother that he has to take his A-level maths, both Christopher and Mother secretly leave London to go back to Swindon. And Christopher takes his A-level maths and gets an A grade."...I went to London on my own, and because I solved the mystery of Who Killed Wellington? and I found my mother and I was brave and I wrote a book which means I can do anything."(Haddon, 221).
