Storyboard Text

  • "Odysseus and his crew set out for the land of the dead. They arrive and find the place to which Circe had directed them."
  • As they walked slowly souls started to gather, stirring out Erebus, brides and young men. Odysseus grew sick with fear.
  • "How is this Elpenor, how could you journey to the western gloom swifter afoot than I in black lugger?"
  • "...I fell asleep on Circe's roof, then could not see the long steep backward ladder, coming down and fell the height. My neck bone, buckle under, snapped, and my spirit found this well of dark..."
  • He started to weep with pity when he saw one certain shade. It was one of his men; Elpenor.
  • Also as he walks through the land of the dead he is unfortunate to see his father, mother and son.
  • "...O my lord, remember me, I pray, do not abandoned me unwept, unburied, to tempt the gods wrath, while you sail for home; but fire my corpse..."
  • " Unhappy spirit, I promise you the barrow of burial..."
  • Elpenor tells Odysseus  about how they need to be burned so their soul can be free. Odysseus agrees to burn the corpses.
  • Tiresias, the prince of Thebes, came forward bearing a golden staff and addresses Odysseus. He gives him a warning to help Odysseus to get home...
  • "...great anguish lies ahead; the god who thunders on the land prepares it, not be shaken from your track, implacable, in rancor for the son whose eyes you blinded.
