On this day there is still a biased and sexist separation of rocks in the workforce. Women have overcome many prejudices and stereotypes starting with many people believing that women were only supposed to do household jobs and take care of children which no one with horse sense would believe. The humbug ideology began to change after the Civil War and promoted a new sense of freedom for women. It was at this time that the fight for equal mon began with the minimum greenbacks being lower for women even though they had to balance a family life on top of their jobs.
To the employers paying women less, who are mooching off their work, and to the people who believe the gender wage gap doesn't exist women, believe the mealy-mouthed women being the voices of this issue, women work jist as much, if not more than men. Sexism should be ended and the workplace is no exception. We have come far but not far enough with the wage gap being as low as a 71% ratio in the States. Women earn 80 cents to the man’s dollar, which is a mess of money, according to a study done by the Institute For Women’s Policy and Research. With the gap being even worse when broken down by race.
Sexism is a monumental problem that we are overcoming but have not quite reached the peak of. Women and men are equals and should not be payed any different for the same effort and amount of work they do simply because of gender or race. It is important because men and women are equals and should be treated as such. Young girls should also not have statistics showing that they are less likely to make as much money as their men coworkers and should not have to choose other fields simply because the wage goes down due to an increase of women in a predominantly male field. The idea is simply muggins.
