I chose the poem on paper because it marked the start of her writing career. Writing her full name on her own was a huge milestone in her life because now, she can write anything she wants. Once she learned all the letters, she could start writing stories and poems until her hands went numb if she wanted to. If she had never learned how to write her full name, Jacqueline Amanda Woodson, she would have never been a famous author, and never would have published Brown Girl Dreaming. The small steps lead up to big rewards like winning the Newberry Honor Award, and the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. This small milestone of writing her full name lead to her inspiring many other kids and even adults to love writing and to fight for what they believe in.
